Frequently Asked Questions
At Luxe Dental Hygiene, we are with you every step of the way on your oral health journey. We’ve compiled a guide addressing the most frequently asked questions from our patients, designed to help you experience our compassionate approach to dental health.
The ideal frequency of dental hygiene visits differs from person to person, as oral health is unique to each individual. In most cases, we recommend coming in twice a year for dental cleanings. However, if you have periodontal issues like gum disease, we may suggest more frequent visits to better manage your oral health.
Flossing plays an essential role in maintaining good oral hygiene. By flossing daily, especially after meals, you can effectively remove food particles and plaque from between teeth, helping to prevent tooth decay and periodontal disease; ultimately supporting overall dental health.
Routine dental cleanings are essential for maintaining both oral health and overall well-being. They help prevent issues like cavities and gum disease, strengthen your teeth, and keep your smile bright and healthy.
To maintain good dental health at home, it is recommended to:
Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoridated toothpaste
Floss daily to remove plaque and food particles from between teeth
Use mouthwash to kill bacteria and freshen breath
Limit sugary + acidic foods + drinks
Visit your dental hygienist regularly for dental cleanings
To ensure optimal cleaning, it’s recommended to replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months. Over time, bristles can become frayed, diminishing the toothbrush's ability to effectively remove plaque.
Early signs of dental problems can include:
Tooth sensitivity
Pain when biting or chewing
Swelling or tenderness in gums
Bleeding when brushing or flossing
Receding gums
Dark or discoloured teeth
Bad breath or a bad taste in mouth
Changes in bite or fit of dentures
If you experience any of these symptoms, schedule a New Patient Exam as soon as possible.
The Canadian Dental Association recommends bi-annual dental cleanings or visits every six months. In cases where gum and bone health are at risk, more frequent cleanings may be advised. The Zoom whitening gel contains hydrogen peroxide, which can sometimes cause sensitivity or discomfort during treatment. Sensitivity levels vary from person to person, but those with pre-existing tooth sensitivity should be particularly cautious. The gel may trigger temporary discomfort in sensitive teeth, though this usually subsides within
a few days. It's important to discuss any concerns with your dental hygienist beforehand, as they can take measures to reduce sensitivity by adjusting the treatment’s strength or duration and using protective strategies. At home, using a desensitizing toothpaste such as Sensodyne ProNamel can also help manage sensitivity. The Zoom laser teeth whitening treatment offered by Luxe Dental Hygiene in Vancouver is approved by the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) for its safety and effectiveness. Our dental-grade products are administered by experienced dental hygienists, ensuring your comfort and well-being throughout the procedure.
