Dental Remineralization
in Vancouver at Luxe Dental Hygiene

Dental remineralization is the natural process by which minerals like calcium and phosphate are redeposited into tooth enamel after being depleted by acids from bacteria and food. This process strengthens the enamel and helps prevent or even reverse early signs of tooth decay.
Our dental practice supports remineralization through fluoride treatments, which boost this natural process. Fluoride strengthens enamel by making it more resistant to acid attacks from plaque and sugars. In-office fluoride treatments, such as gels, varnishes, or foams, provide a high concentration of fluoride that promotes remineralization and helps protect teeth from cavities.
At Luxe, we use a fluoride varnish treatment at the end of your dental cleaning. This is a highly concentrated fluoride treatment that is painted directly onto the teeth by one of our skilled dental professionals. It adheres to the enamel and slowly releases fluoride over time, providing prolonged protection. Varnish is especially effective for cavity prevention because it remains on the teeth for longer, allowing more fluoride absorption. It’s also ideal for children or individuals with a higher risk of decay.
Fluoride varnish can also be beneficial for patients with gum recession or sensitive teeth:
For Gum Recession:
When gums recede, the softer root surfaces of the teeth become exposed, making them more vulnerable to decay and wear. Fluoride varnish helps protect these exposed areas by strengthening the enamel and dentin, reducing the risk of cavities in the more sensitive root areas.

For Sensitive Teeth:
Fluoride varnish can help reduce tooth sensitivity by forming a protective barrier over the exposed dentin, which is often the source of sensitivity. It helps block the tiny tubules in the dentin that transmit pain signals, offering relief from sensitivity caused by cold, hot, or sweet foods and drinks.
